Rain on Wednesday
A poem
Rain on Wednesday
Ought to be snow.
Obscuring sunrise,
Assaulting windows,
Washing salt and sludge
Down frozen drains.
Its judgement executed,
Right and just.
Meeting stony heart,
Deep in slumber.
Pouring out torrents,
Unrelenting and violent,
Softening and fracturing
And shattering and crumbling
Stone unto dust.
Flooding waking water,
Kneading dust into sludge.
Extracting impurities,
Compelling drowning,
Demanding death.
When One
With mud mired hems
And sludge soaked sandals
And twinkling eye
Stoops to gutter
Upstream frozen drain
Delighted -
At last! -
For clay.

Wow! This is really good! Reminds me of a mix of Gerard Manley Hopkins and Robert Frost’s themes and styles.
